Relaxing Gas

At the GiGi we believe there is no room for pain in modern dentistry and we have a few options that can make your visit less stressful.

Nitrous oxide, also know as “laughing gas,” is one option our dentists may offer to help make you more comfortable during certain procedures. It is not intended to put you to sleep, but simply to help you have a stress free experience. You will still be able to hear and respond to any requests or directions the dentist may have.

The process is very simple: Your dentist will ask you to breathe normally through your nose and within a few minutes you should start to feel the effects of the gas. You may feel light-headed or a tingling in your arms and legs.

Ultimately, you should feel calm and comfortable. The American Academy of Paediatric Dentistry recognises this technique as a very safe, effective technique to use for treating children’s dental needs.

The gas is mild, has easy uptake, and is quickly eliminated from the body with normal breathing. The effects of nitrous oxide wear off soon after the mask is removed.
